Past Medical Mission Trips

may 2025 (international): Cape Town, South Africa

May 21-31, 2025

In May 2025, members of the Medical Service Organization took part in Baylor’s first-ever medical mission trip to Cape Town, South Africa. Partnering with the local nonprofit ministry Living Hope and the global outreach organization One More Child, our team had the privilege of serving and connecting with underserved communities across the region.

Each day, we visited different neighborhoods to conduct home health check-ins: taking vitals such as blood pressure and blood glucose, checking in on medical concerns, and offering encouragement and support. We also helped set up and staff a mobile pop-up clinic to provide basic medical care to those experiencing homelessness. In the afternoons, we engaged with local children by leading activities, playing games, and teaching lessons on emotional well-being, mental health, and healthy coping strategies.

This trip was about more than just healthcare: it was about bringing joy, building relationships, and sharing hope. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve, learn from the South African communities we met, and grow both personally and professionally through this life-changing experience.

Summer 2024 (international): Dominican republic

may 21-31, 2024

In May of 2024 we partnered with One More Child, for the very first time, to provide services to vulnerable children and struggling families. We packaged and distributed a month of food to families in the village, which brought relief to many. At a local school we taught health lessons and played with them in the afternoon which brought joy and fostered meaningful connections.

Additionally, we had the opportunity to shadow doctors at two local clinics and observe various types of surgeries at the local hospital which provided us with valuable insight into the healthcare system in comparison to the United States.

spring break 2020 (international): collique, peru

march 15-21, 2020

In March 2020, we partnered with Operación San Andrés (OSA), for the second year in a row, working in a community that has little access to affordable medical care. We served as a prep team for a full scale medical clinic that took place the following week. We set up appointment times, took vitals, and gathered basic health information. Additionally, we had the opportunity to play into team debris strengths and participate in a variety of activities that take place at their community center.
