The At Risk Tissue consists of Family Abuse Center, Mentoring Alliance,Waco Center for Youth, and Talitha Koum Institute.

Family Abuse Center

The Family Abuse Center provides active ways to engage with children who have experienced domestic violence within the household. Activities can range from week-long projects (Arts and Crafts), story reading, serving a warm meal, and much more!

Volunteer orientation required: Volunteers will meet with their coordinator to talk about the center and potential COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

Volunteering times:

  • Every day of the week, throughout the day (can select time through student portal when to volunteer).

waco center for youth

Volunteer with youth in social contexts (chatting, watching movies, playing games/sports, etc.) or help with tutoring, and do things like Chapel volunteering or horsemanship volunteering.

**Volunteer orientation is required with fingerprinting process

  • Open Monday-Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM

Talitha Koum Institute

Talitha Koum is a nurture center focused on infants to 5 year old children living in stressful settings. Talitha Koum works in best interest of the children, allowing them to grow developmentally to the best of their ability. Children follow a structured schedule including designated times for the gymnasium, naps and sensory play. With the help of volunteers, kids are able to thrive in a safe environment and have a positive experience each day.

**An orientation must be attended (Saturdays ~10am) and a background check/fingerprint (if volunteering with the children)

Volunteering times:

  • Ideal times are 8:00am-11:30am and 2:30pm-4:30pm Monday through Thursday, or Friday mornings.
